High Hi + Mayorga at Depot Leuven 25 november 2022

Seemingly happy with melancholic undertones.

High Hi – the vehicle of power trio Anne-Sophie Ooghe (guitar/vocals), Dieter Beerten (drums/vocals) and Koen Weverbergh (bass) – maneuvered nicely through the pandemic, dived into the studio and promptly threw ten tracks on tape. Return to Dust’ is the first outtake.

For the production of the new album, they called on Daan Schepers, known for his work with Bazart, Warhola and Eefje de Visser. For the mix, Dr. Tucan Taylor Michaels was at the controls, a powerhouse who has also been hired by Gorillaz, Jungle and Hot Chip.

Soundslike? Genuine High Hi. Offspring of eighties indie rock, nineties shoegaze, and raised by the noughties. A song, kept tightly in line by a funky feel, fueled by an earworm riff that immediately settles into the head. And with a familiar sound signature: two-part, seemingly happy with melancholy undertones, the aural equivalent of a pleasant shiver down the spine.

Support act: Mayorga

Mayorga is the new project of guitarist Helena Mayorga Paredes. The half-Chilean guitarist brings a melancholic mix of lo-fi indie pop and r(a)uwe guitar songs.

After years of stage experience with bands such as Pavlove, Earth To Daan and Noémie Wolfs, she now comes out with her solo project. Venues such as the Lotto Arena, OLT Rivierenhof, De Roma, Het Depot, Trix etc. have already had her guitar sounds coming through their PA in the past.

Her songs originate in her bedroom, somewhere on the road or somewhere on the way to her bedroom. She plays with guitars, drums, bass and percussion. DIY, in other words.(source : Depot)
