From June 6 to 9, 2025, Leipzig, Germany will once again transform into the international capital of gothic culture. The 32nd edition of Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2025 (WGT) is set to welcome around 20,000 visitors from across the globe, united in their love for dark music, alternative fashion, and underground art.

What is Wave-Gotik-Treffen?

Known as the world’s largest gothic music festival, WGT isn’t just a concert series—it’s a cultural phenomenon. Each year over Whitsun weekend, Leipzig becomes a gothic haven, offering a rich program of music, exhibitions, performances, and parties in a peaceful, vibrant atmosphere often described as a family reunion for the global dark scene.

150+ Bands, 20+ Venues: A Citywide Musical Journey

Over four days, 150 to 200 bands will perform on more than 20 stages throughout the city—ranging from underground clubs and historic churches to iconic venues like Moritzbastei and the Volkspalast. Expect an eclectic mix of gothic subgenres, including:

Synthpop
Gothic rock & metal
EBM & industrial
Neofolk & medieval
Dark ambient & post-punk

Beyond the Music: Markets, Art, and Midnight Revelry

WGT is about much more than music. The festival also includes:

A medieval market and pagan village
Lectures, film screenings, and theatre
Classical concerts in elegant settings
A massive gothic shopping market inside the agra fair halls
The legendary fetish party (strict dress code enforced)
Countless themed parties and scene DJs spinning until dawn

From crypts and cathedrals to forests and fortresses, WGT turns Leipzig into a playground for the nocturnal and the artistic.

Free Camping and Public Transport with Obsorgekarte

Festival guests who purchase the Obsorgekarte enjoy free access to the large campsite at the agra grounds, as well as unlimited public transport in Leipzig during the event—making it easy to explore every part of the festival.

A Community Like No Other

What truly sets Wave-Gotik-Treffen (see also my previous post)apart is its atmosphere: inclusive, peaceful, and deeply connected. For many, WGT is an annual pilgrimage—a place to reconnect with old friends, meet kindred spirits, and celebrate their shared identity in a city dressed in black.
