Het Depot & De Tijdloze pull a genuine electroclash godfather out of the shadows for New Wave Night
On Tuesday, November 10, 2026, Het Depot in Leuven and De Tijdloze team up for another edition of New Wave Night, diving headfirst into the darkest corners of the 1980s โ neon lights, smoke machines, and heavy eyeliner as the backdrop. As always, the night opens with a blistering live set before the DJs take over, promising dirty basslines, cold synths, wave classics, and forgotten gems pulled straight from the shadows.
Crash Course in Science ๐บ๐ธ โ minimal electro before the term existed
This edition’s opening act is nothing short of legendary: Crash Course in Science. Formed in Philadelphia in 1979, this American cult band helped lay the groundwork for alternative electronic music before most of the genre’s vocabulary even existed. Their uncompromising, minimalist sound โ built years before anyone called it “minimal electro” โ turned them into genuine pioneers. Their iconic track “Flying Turns,” a repetitive trip through dark synths and strange sounds, became a worldwide underground hit and a fixture in dark clubs everywhere.
Though their discography stayed compact, their influence only grew: nearly every influential DJ and producer of the early-2000s electroclash movement has cited Crash Course in Science as one of the scene’s founding fathers. Reunited and performing since 2009, their hypnotic live show makes for a perfect ignition point for New Wave Night.
Afterparty: The Whatevers & DJ Malcolm Nix
Once the live set wraps, The Whatevers โ the solo project of Kim Mathijs (aka Michael Midnight, also known from Ed&Kim and Flashback Force) โ takes over with a genre-crossing selection of anthems spanning five decades, present, and future. Genre boundaries don’t apply: “whatever fits.”
Closing the night is DJ Malcolm Nix, a Het Depot resident since the second half of the 1980s. His love for musical diversity, experimentation, and the uncompromising spirit of a generation that turned its back on the mainstream has never faded โ as he puts it, white light still bores him; it’s the shadows that keep pulling him in.
