With the slogan Let’s Age On Stage, we are rolling out the red carpet for Gruppo Sportivo. The legendary Dutch band, known for such pop classics as Hey Girl, Beep Beep Love, Tokyo, Rock ‘n Roll and Disco Really Made It, has been performing successfully again for several years. The lineup still consists of frontman and songwriter Hans Vandenburg (vocals/guitar) and the other original members Peter Calicher (keyboards) and Max Mollinger (drums). Also in attendance are Lies Schilp & Inge Bonthond (both vocals) and the Bombitas. Tim Barning (bass) completes the company since the album Great. With this record, the band made an acclaimed comeback in 2018. “Gruppo’s best since Back to ’78,” wrote leading Dutch music magazine OOR.
Gruppo Sportivo was founded in 1976 in The Hague. The bubbly Dutch pop band experienced its peak in the late 1970s and early 1980s. With their infectious sound, surfing on the first waves of new wave, the band swept a fresh wind through the Dutch music scene. Their albums 10 Mistakes and Back to ’78 are still considered classics of Dutch pop. At De Roma, expect a blistering live show in which Gruppo Sportivo will look back on their rich oeuvre and play songs from their new album, including the recently released single P.S. I Love You.
