Gavin Friday’s “Ecce Homo” showcases love, loss and rebellion in one powerful album.
Gavin Friday (64), born in Dublin, is a versatile artist who began his career with the groundbreaking post-punk band Virgin Prunes. Early on, he turned his back on the strict Catholicism of his youth and found a source of freedom and rebellion in music. His new album “Ecce Homo”, the first in thirteen years, reflects a life full of struggle, loss and love. Together with Soft Cell’s Dave Ball, he created a mix of hard electronics and intimate acoustics, in which both anger against abuse of power and tenderness and hope resonate.
The album is shaped by personal experiences: the death of his mother, a long-term relationship that brought him stability, and the loss of dear friends and a beloved dog. “Ecce Homo” is Friday’s most honest work to date: a monument to survival, love and resistance, in which past and future come together in an uncompromising artistic vision.
