Belgian post-metal act Psychonaut turn deeply personal on World Maker, with genre-defying openers The Guru Guru in support
Belgian post-metal outfit Psychonaut bring their most personal and emotional record yet to Het Depot in Leuven on Friday, November 20, 2026, with special guest The Guru Guru opening the night.
Psychonaut — a record born from life and loss
On World Maker, Psychonaut show a more personal, emotional side than ever before. The album took shape during an intense period in which guitarist and vocalist Stefan De Graef became a father, while both his own father and bassist Thomas Michiels’ father fell seriously ill at the same time.
Unlike the philosophical, complex themes of their earlier albums, World Maker focuses on the here and now. The songs feel like life lessons and messages of love written for De Graef’s newborn son. That shift in mindset brings more warmth and melody, drawing on folk, electronic, and world music influences without losing the band’s heavy riffs and powerful post-metal core.
Tracks like “Endless Currents” and “Stargazer” combine hope, grief, and intense energy in equal measure. The result is an album built around change, family, loss, and the importance of finding beauty in the moment — intimate, powerful, and genuinely human.
The Guru Guru — deep express art rock
Since 2012, The Guru Guru have dealt in what they call “deep express art rock” — think a lead vocal in a multicolored straitjacket, chased down by feverish guitars and a convulsing rhythm section. With audible playing pleasure, the band rewrites the rules of indie-math-psycho-noise, resulting in unruly songs that occasionally slide in surprisingly smoothly. They get their fix from the same dealer as Queens of the Stone Age, Radiohead, The Mars Volta, Soulwax, The Jesus Lizard, and Andy Kaufman — a band that refuses to fit into any single box. Live, The Guru Guru is a genuine must-see, with frontman Tom The Bomb balancing on the edge of theatrical psychosis while the energy pours off the stage.
