From May 22 to May 25, 2026, Leipzig once again becomes the global capital of the dark scene as the 33rd edition of Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2026 (WGT) takes over the city. As every year during the Pentecost weekend, tens of thousands of visitors from all over the world will gather to celebrate music, art, and culture in all its darker forms.
With around 20,000 attendees expected, WGT remains the largest festival of the black subculture worldwide. But for many, it is far more than just a music festival — it’s a cultural reunion that connects generations, styles, and communities across the scene.
Over 200 bands will perform across approximately 20 venues spread throughout Leipzig, including clubs, churches, and historic locations. The musical spectrum covers everything from synthpop and EBM to goth metal, neofolk, medieval sounds, and industrial. Iconic venues such as the Moritzbastei, the impressive Kuppelhalle at Volkspalast, and even the atmospheric crypt of the Völkerschlachtdenkmal will once again host unforgettable performances.
Beyond the concerts, WGT offers a rich and diverse cultural program. Visitors can explore the medieval market and the Heidnisches Dorf (Pagan Village), attend readings, lectures, film screenings, art exhibitions, and тhеатer performances. The famous agra hall will transform into the world’s largest gothic marketplace, while countless themed parties with scene DJs will continue until the early morning hours. The well-known fetish party will also return, with a strict dress code in place.
For festival-goers, a large camping site is available at the agra grounds, included with the festival wristband (Obsorgekarte). Public transport across Leipzig is also included during the event, making it easy to move between the many locations.
What truly sets Wave-Gotik-Treffen apart is its unique atmosphere. People from all over the world come together in a peaceful, welcoming environment, reconnect with friends, and immerse themselves in a city transformed into a sea of black. For many, WGT feels like coming home.
